David Jerome Bernatz
David Bernatz Jewelers is a family-owned and operated jewelry store located in Encinitas, CA. Our business was founded in 1977 by David Jerome Bernatz, who was a certified gemologist and fine jewelry and gem aficionado. David Bernatz Jewelers’ original store was located in Mission Valley, on the second floor of an office building, and carried some of the finest jewelry lines at the time, like Henry Dunay, Oscar Heyman, Piaget, Concord, and Jaeger-LeCoultre watches.
In 1983, David J. Bernatz expanded his line of designer products as well as custom designs and re-located to Fairbanks Ranch in San Diego County. After years of dedication and contribution to the business and industry, David decided to follow his other passion of growing Breyburn apples and moved to Eugene, Oregon. Shortly after, David’s son, David Alexander Bernatz, opened a new store location at West Village Plaza in Encinitas in 1987. David A. Bernatz graduated in 1982 from the Gemological Institute of America and continues to share the same passion for fine jewelry as his father, but focuses on his line of unique and custom pieces.
When the Encinitas Ranch Town Center was built on the former flower fields by the Ecke Family in 1995, David A. Bernatz decided to re-locate one last time and was among the first of the many stores to open in the center in November, 1997.
David Bernatz Jewelers has a long history in San Diego, especially in the town of Encinitas, and we pride ourselves with being “one-of-the-community”. David A. Bernatz and his father were both heavily involved in the Del Mar Rotary Club and David Bernatz Jewelers supports and donates to various organizations and schools, like St. John’s Church, La Costa Canyon High School, Dance Unlimited, Vista High School, Cathedral, UCSD, and Stars and Stripes Event, which donates to multiple non-profit organizations.
